Hollywood can't stop remaking movies, can they?

Rosemary's Baby, the 1968 Roman Polanski classic starring Mia Farrow based on the 1967 book by Ira Levin, is getting an update for 2014. The first photos have been released of Zoe Saldana, of Avatar fame, as the new face of Rosemary. Rosemary's Baby is said to be aired by NBC as a four-part miniseries directed by Agnieszka Holland, the Polish filmmaker who most recently received an 2011 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film for In Darkness. She has also directed various episodes of HBO's Treme.

The plot of Rosemary's Baby will remain almost identical to the original-- a trophy wife marries a successful man and they move into a beautiful apartment together (in the miniseries, they will move to Paris, not New York). Soon after, Rosemary gets pregnant and becomes increasingly suspicious that her eccentric neighbors are devil worshippers who are trying to interfere between her and her first-born baby.

Rosemary's Baby was one of four miniseries projects that NBC put into development last summer along with the recently-cancelled Hillary Clinton miniseries. As the Netflix and Hulu-ruled era of television continues to march on, miniseries will become increasingly more popular on network channels because they improve ratings-- can't Netflix a TV miniseries the night after it's aired!

"As we move into the event movie and miniseries space, Rosemary’s Baby represents the kind of attention-getting, surprising project that will make noise for us," NBC president Jennifer Salke said in a press release. "The story has been updated and moved to Paris, but it’s faithful to the spirit of Ira Levin’s [sic] novel. This is a compelling tale wonderfully told.”

In addition to Rosemary's Baby, NBC plans to produce a series based off of Stephen King's 1987 science fiction novel Tommyknockers. Horror and sci-fi are in!
