Country superstar Taylor Swift takes front and center (for a fleeting eye-blinking moment) in the official trailer for The Giver. She is certainly in good company as Meryl Streep (as the Chief Elder), Jeff Bridges (as The Giver) and Brenton Thwaites (as Jonas) are also set for the film, hitting theaters on Aug. 15.

Katie Holmes (as Jonas’s mother), Alexander Skarsgard (Jonas’s father), Cameron Monaghan (as Jonas’s best friend Asher) and Odeye Rush (as Jonas’s friend-lover Fiona) also star in the feature.

In the nearly 90-second promo clip, Swift makes a brief appearance, around the :44 mark. She will portray Rosemary, The Giver's daughter, and according to Wikia, she is "the Receiver of Memory that failed and brought some memories back to the Community," but "because of all the pain and loss of the sorrowful memories, she applied for release, therefore commiting suicide."

Well, Swift certainly has her work cut out for her. Judging by the teaser, this just might be her darkest role yet. Previously, the sensitive singer-songwriter has appeared in such films as Valentine's Day and The Lorax, as well as guest starred on New Girl and CSI.

The Giver description reads: "The haunting story of THE GIVER centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. The film is based on Lois Lowry's beloved young adult novel of the same name, which was the winner the 1994 Newbury Medal and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide."

The film was directed by Phil Noyce, with a screenplay by Michael Mitnick.
